Sound of Music - The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world’s most beloved musical. When a postulant proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for seven children of a widowed naval Captain. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain, and they marry. Upon returning from their honeymoon they discover that Austria has been invaded by the Nazis, who demand the Captain’s immediate service in the Navy. The family’s narrow escape over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II provides one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented in the theater. My Fair Lady as a musical, was the original idea of the hungarian Lehel Gábor (Gabriel Pascal). It is a musical based upon George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion and with book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. The story concerns Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl who takes speech lessons from professor Henry Higgins so that she can pass as a lady. Higgins takes credit for Eliza’s success, but she realizes that she can now be independent and does not need him.The musical’s 1956 Broadway production was a smash hit, setting a new record for the longest run of any major musical theatre production in history. It was followed by a hit London production, a popular film version, and numerous revivals. The South Coast Has Talent contest is open to all residents of the South Coast and ages. Talents include, but are not limited to, bands, skits, singers and dancers.The Bandon Playhouse wants to give everyone the chance to ‘strut their stuff. No professional performers will be allowed to compete; the show is open to amateurs only.This was such a successful show last year that we decided to bring it back for another round.Showtimes will be in November 2010.
