Christmas Belles

The Futrelle sisters are returning to the stage of the Sprague Theater after a two year hiatus. Last seen in 2007 in the Bandon Playhouse production of “Dearly Beloved”, the sisters are coming back to put on a Christmas program at the Tabernacle of the Lamb, the likes of which audiences will not soon forget. According to director, Pam Hansen, this sequel, entitled “Christmas Belles” begins at Christmas time in Fayro, TX and the three sisters, Honey Rae, Twink and Frankie are not exactly in a festive mood. A cranky Frankie, played by Meri Jane Deuel, is weeks overdue with her second set of twins. Twink reprised by Kathy Underdown, recently jilted and bitter about it, is in jail for inadvertently burning down half of Fayro. Honey Rae, played by returning Johanna Hickox, is desperately trying to keep the Christmas program from spiraling into chaos. Elaine Whitman returning as Miss Geneva, the ousted director of the previous twenty seven productions, is ruthless in her attempts to take over the show. The celebrity guest Santa Claus – played by Frankie’s long-suffering husband, Dub (Jay Straley)-is passing a kidney stone in the midst of all this. One of the shepherds (Benjamin Rich) refuses to watch over his flock by night without pulling his little red wagon and Diana Voight rejuvenates her Patsy Price role in an unaccustomed manner. Newcomer, Malachi Stout as interim pastor, Justin Waverly, tries to keep control over Miss Geneva while at the same time trying to get Gina Joe (Courtney Gaspar) to make some type of love commitment. Then there’s deputy sheriff John Curtis, reprised by Gareth Williams, who has to become an Elvis impersonator after the entire cast begins to drop like flies after eating at the Band Booster’s Pancake Supper. And when Frankie lets slip a family secret that has been carefully guarded for decades, all hope for a successful Christmas program becomes lost. On hand to try to save all this is Rhonda Lyn(SharonLee Danielson) who likes to joke and borders on being very annoying. In true Futrelle fashion, the feuding sisters find a way to pull together in order to present a Christmas program that Fayro TX and Bandon OR will never forget.

Pam Hansen, director, stated that many of the actors are returning to characters that they previously enjoyed creating and the dialogue in this play is just as funny as in “Dearly Beloved’. “Christmas Belles” is the type of holiday play that will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy and bring joy to your world. The play opens Friday, December 4th and runs for two weekends. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30pm and the Sunday matinees are at 2:00pm. Ticket prices are $12.00 for adults and $10.00 for youth 8 to 18 and seniors 60 and older. Tickets are available at Bandon Mercantile, Bandon True Value Hardware, and Winter River Books or by calling the Sprague Theater box office at 514-347-7426. You definitely need to make time during this holiday season to enjoy Bandon Playhouse’s latest production.
