Sound of Music Is Alive

The Bandon Playhouse has also completed casting and will begin rehearsal shortly for “The Sound of Music”, a classic and endearing musical written by Rodgers and Hammerstein based on the story of the Trapp Family Singers. The leading roles of Maria, a young Postulant at Nonnberg Abbey will be played by Cynthia Hay of Bandon who appeared as Edith in the Playhouse production of Pirates of Penzance. The leading man, Captain Georg von Trapp will be played by Roger Sims of Coos Bay, who is currently performing in “Camelot” in Florence. Other cast members will include: Bobbie Neason (Mother Abbess), Diane Bruce (Sister Berthe), Beth Hutton (Sister Margaretta), Doreen Colbert (Sister Sophia), Jay Straley (Franz), Josie Morrison (Frau Schmidt), Hope Hay (Liesl), Max Underdown (Friedrich), Autumn Moss-Strong (Louisa), Josiah Hay (Kurt), Lucy Merriam (Brigitta), Olivia Kincaid (Marta), Holly Hutton (Gretl), Ben Taylor (Rolf), Lori Straley (Elsa Schraeder), Bob Hundhausen (Max Detweiler), Wayne Robbins (Herr Zeller), Darwin & Marilynn Noorda (Baron and Baroness Elberfeld), Gareth Williams (Admiral Von Schreiber), Russel Hay, Luke Kachelein, and Strider Kachelein (Germans), Rachel Sheldon, Darby Underdown, Amy Moss-Strong, Karen Cook, Donica Prescott, Sabra Kachelein, Kelly Straley, and Kathy Scott (Nuns & Postulants).

“The Sound of Music.” is directed by Jeff Norris, with musical direction by Janice Kendall and Dean Conyers, and the choreographers are Trish Shropshire and Maria Merriam. The Sound of Music is inspirational on many levels whether it’s the story, the courage, the message or the music, few can experience it without being touched for a lifetime. This show will be presented at the Sprague Community theater February 19th, 20th, and 21st, 26th, 27th, and 28th, and March 5th, 6th, and 7th 2010, with Friday and Saturday performances at 7:30 and Sunday matinees at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $15 regular admission and $12 for students and seniors.
