MINUTES OF THE BOARD/GENERAL MEETING
DATE: June 04, 2009
Minutes from the May meeting were read, corrected and then approved.
There was no treasurer’s report other than John via Dean stated that there was little change from the previous month. Lorna brought up that there are 13 businesses that are paying for the ads on a monthly basis so they need to be billed every month. Dean will check with John to determine if this is being done.
OLD BUSINESS:
Report was given by Kathie on “Bye-Bye Birdie” . Casting call and auditions were held and the turnout by the high school youth was very good. All parts have been cast with the exception of Rosie and Albert, the two main characters. Suggestions were given by several board members on who to contact for possibilities such as Harv at the Bandon Youth Center and Mr. Harding at the High School, also Ms. Maria at the dance studio. Kathie stated the problem is more with not having a musical director and/or accompanist. She has personally contacted 23 musical people and been rejected by all.. These include people from Coos Bay/NB, Coquille and Bandon. She has even contacted the local churches but has had no success. She is asking for help. Some board members gave a few more names for Kathie to try and contact. The possibility exists that the show may not be able to be done in the remaining timeframe. Kathie will continue looking for music talent but the first read thru is next Tuesday.
Lorna reported on “Witness for the Prosecution” production. Things are moving along quite well. Tickets for the shows look like a summons for the jury. Pat’s Printing has a new copy machine so the posters are done on different type paper and thus are a little cheaper. Ads are being placed in the coffee break to develop interest. Lorna is meeting with KCBY next Wednesday to determine the cost for TV ads. The info for the show has been placed on the BPH website. The set is being built. Head shots of the actors are being done for the program. Lorna is having scones and special cookies for the snack bar. Posters were given to Andrea Bowden for distribution to Langlois and Don Wilson for Coos Bay. Coquille needs to be done, so Kathie took some for there. Looks like everything is in good shape.
BPH newsletter articles need to be to Claudine no later than Monday since Bob & Claudine are leaving and won’t be back until June 15th. Claudine plans to have the newsletter out before the opening of “Witness” but it won’t be ready until June 18th or 19th. Claudine needs a letter from the BPH President and anything about BBB. She stated that this is a good opportunity to ask members for needed things.
NEW BUSINESS:
Earla reported on the scholarship applications that were received.. John stated that the BPH could afford to give two $1000 awards. The scholarship is contingent on the student pursuing their education in performing arts. Applications were received from Clarissa Castaldi, Kayleigh Duval, Alex J Sylvester and Samantha Hohlweg. After reviewing the applicable paperwork, it was determine to accept the recommendation of the scholarship chairman and award $1000 each to Clarissa Castaldi and Alex J Sylvester. Motion carried.
Meeting adjourned at 7:54pm. There were 8 in attendance.
Respectfully Submitted,
Kathie Lecce
BPH Secretary
